River Birch (Betula nigra) & Fern pine (Podocarpus gracillior)

It's not every day you see a River Birch in San Francisco, but with a powerful enough irrigation system anything is possible. I had the pleasure of doing some structural pruning and building clearance work on this multi-stemmed birch. As for the Podocarpus hedge, the goal was to reduce and thin the overhanging upper portions of each tree to increase light penetration through the canopy and encourage sprouting at eye level. All in all it was a lovely job, for a lovely client, on a lovely day.
